Anglers competing in the Michiana Walleye Association’s Blood Run Tackle Challenge at Lake Maxinkuckee last weekend found a very tough walleye bite on the popular lake.

Dan Hoffman (Goshen) and Bob May (South Bend) figured them out by trolling deep water for suspended fish with inline weights and crawler harnesses. They won with five keepers that weighed 6.7 pounds.

Dwight Jones (Mishawaka) and Don Shelton (Berrien Center, Mich.) jigged 17 to 30 feet of water with leeches to finish second with 4.31 pounds that included the ClearH2O Tackle big fish of the day (2.09 pounds).

Third place and the Trailmaster Trailer Loyalty Reward prize was the team of Rocky Enfield (Elkhart) and Lucas Schwartz (Warsaw) with 3.96 pounds and also won the Trailmaster Trailer Loyalty Award. They caught their walleyes on blade baits and crawler harnesses fished behind 2-ounce bottom bouncers.

The next event is at Lake of the Woods in Bremen June 28. For more information, contact Ed at ezak4ss@sbcglobal.net.
