BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The 2015 Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Opens tournament series will span nine months, visit nine states and possibly provide nine professional anglers a ticket to the Super Bowl of bass fishing - the Bassmaster Classic.

B.A.S.S. announced the three-division, nine-tournament Opens schedule recently, noting that it kicks off with the Jan. 15-17 Southern Open No. 1 on Lake Tohopekaliga at Kissimmee, Fla., and concludes Oct. 22-24 with the final Southern Open on Lake Seminole at Bainbridge, Ga.


Bill Whitaker (Middleburg) and Tony Koser (Warsaw) won the U.S. Anglers Choice season finale under tough fishing conditions on Winona Lake recently.

The winners ($1,020) caught 9.99 pounds in less than 10 feet of water on Poor Boy darters and homemade jigs.

John and Meghan Gipson (Lafayette) had five keeper bass totaling 16.56 pounds to win the Casting Couples tournament on the St. Joseph River at Benton Harbor recently.

The Gipsons used tubes and blade baits in about 15-20 feet of water to catch a limit early.


R&B Classic WinnersR&B Classic WinnersJason Dittmar (North Liberty) and Tony Kaser (North Liberty) put together a 12.15-pound limit to beat out 37 of the best teams in Michiana and win the R&B Classic on Gun Lake near Kalamazoo last week.

The victory won them $2,000 cash plus another $600 of gear from the Portage, Indiana Bass Pro Shops.

They bagged another $500 for catching the Money Mouth Baits Big bass of the tournament, a 4.17-pound largemouth. All of their fish were caught with D's Lures tubes and Poor Boy's Erie Darters in both green pumpkin and watermelon color schemes. They were matched up with 1/4 ounce D's Lures jigheads. Most fish came from a flat in just 2 feet of water, but the big fish came from 6 feet with the tube.


Michael and Kyle Kaser (Plymouth) won the Hoosier Pro Classic last weekend under cold, windy conditions at Dewart Lake with five bass weighing 9.30 pounds.

The winners ($1,070) caught their fish around lily pads on Zoom Flukes and small crankbaits.

Dan Milligan (Warsaw) and Kris Shipley (Bremen) were second with 7.65 pounds while Rich Patton (Plymouth) and Dave Morrow (Knox) were third with two fish weighing 6.38 pounds.

Rick Rogers and Dan OíNeil (Warsaw) were fourth with two fish that weighed 6 pounds and included big bass of the tournament, a 4.47-pound largemouth.

There were 42.55 pounds weighed in with a team average of 3.87 pounds.
