Ken Tucker (Athens, Mich.) and Brian Hensley (Edwardsburg, Mich.) caught 10.88 pounds to win $1,025 in the Angler's Choice tournament on Lake Tippecanoe recently.

They caught all of their fish in less than 10 feet of water on tubes and said it was a slow bite but the ones they caught were good ones, including a 3.17-pounder that was their biggest bass.

Art Kerns (Wheatfield, Ind.) and Cliff Kerns (Buffalo, Ind.) had 10.35 pounds for second ($585). They also won the big bass pot ($190) with a 4.20-pound fish; all fish were caught on tubes and worms around docks.

Phil Duracz (Chesterton) and Clint Marler (Valparaiso) said they caught their third place ($310) limit early and culled the smaller ones to sack 10.04 pounds.†Their fish came on Stanley jigs and drop shots on the inside edges of weeds.

There were 62 fish weighed in for a total weight of 107.76 pounds or an average of 1.74 pounds each.

Week Night ClassicWeek Night ClassicThe 2014 Michiana Weeknight Tournament Series Classic produced record breaking catches last weekend on the Torch/Skegemog/Elk chain of lakes near Traverse City, Mich.

Despite changing weather and gusty winds, most teams brought a good sack to the scales. Eight teams had limits on day 1, topped by Chris Maynard (Mishawaka) and Chad Worley (Niles) with a five fish weighing 25.60 pounds. They also had day big bass of the day with a 5.60-pound smallmouth.

Heavy winds, clouds and rain hampered fishing for the 22 teams competing on Lake Tippecanoe in the "River Wednesdays Classic" last weekend.

Brian Hensley and Mike Minix (Edwardsburg, Mich.) only caught an 8.11-pound limit, but it was good enough for them to take home the $1,400 first place title. The anglers said they caught their fish on drop-shot rigs in 20 feet of water.

Over nine events, Hackney outpracticed, outstrategized, outfished and ultimately outlasted the other 107 Bassmaster Elite Series anglers who started the season.

Hackney finished 24th in the Toyota Bassmaster Angler of the Year Championship on Bays de Noc Monday after weather forced the postponement of the second (and final) round for three days. It was enough to lock up his first career AOY title.

Along with the sport’s most prestigious title and trophy, Hackney earns $100,000 as bass fishing’s best angler in 2014. The other 49 competitors earned shares of the rest of the $900,000 purse, based on their rankings in Angler of the Year points.

His season was solid right out of the gate. He finished a respectable 38th in the opener on Lake Seminole and followed it up with Top 16 finishes at the St. Johns River (16th), Table Rock Lake (third), Lake Dardanelle (third) and Cayuga Lake (first). His worst finish of the season was 48th at the Delaware River. He was the only angler in the series to earn a prize check (Top 50 finish) at every tournament.
