Despite windy conditions and cold temperatures, a lot of fish were caught. Water temperature was in the low 60s.
The winners had five bass weighing 18.42 pounds caught on crankbaits and Erie Darters. Rick Kedik (Niles) fished alone and was second with 15.18 pounds caught on crankbaits. He also won big bass with a 5.54-pound largemouth. Al Shinabargar and Paul Grafton (Valparaiso, Ind.) used spinnerbaits and crankbaits to catch 13.67 pounds to finish third.
Mike Frank and Jason Cook (Niles) won the Southwest Michigan Anglers two-day Classic on Muskegon Lake last weekend.
Small-craft advisories made for tough fishing conditions on the big lake connected to Lake Michigan and prevented anglers from running to other nearby lakes.
Teddy Bradley (Mishawaka) and Ron Nelson (Berrien Springs) caught 6.69 pounds on the St. Joseph River at Maggies Landing to win the Anglers Choice Pro tournament last weekend.
The winners ($856) caught all of their fish on crankbaits in 2 to 6 feet of water.
Richard Delagrange (Warsaw) and Don Whitaker (Chapman Lake, Ind.) had five fish weighing 5.78 lbs for second place ($512), all caught on spinnerbaits fished along the outside of the weeds and over laying logs. They caught their limit in the first 20 minutes and upgraded after that. They had the biggest bass of the tournament, a 2.85-pound Largemouth. Bob Simmons (Valparaiso) and Jim Hobbs (Westville) were third ($342) with 5.pounds by using jigs and plastics on the seawalls and breaks.
The Northwest Indiana Bass Club will host an open tournament Oct. 13 at Shafer Lake.
Entry fee is $100 per team which includes ramp fee and big bass pot. The tournament will launch at the Indiana Beach Campground and tournament hours are 8-4, EST.
Donuts and giveaways will be provided at registration and the weigh-in. The event will pay $1,200 for first down to $200 for fifth if 50 teams register.

Travis Schroeder (Pierceton, Ind.) and Tom Reed (Cromwell, Ind.) beat out 33 teams with a limit weighing 11.61 pounds to win the R&B Circuit season finale on Lake Wawasee last weekend.
The duo won $690, plus $264 for the Starboard Choice Marine Big Bass Award for their 3.69-pound largemouth. The team found a 30-yard stretch of weeds between 18-20 feet deep on Lake Wawasee where they caught their fish by working ½-ounce swimbaits.
