Four Flags Report

Billy Mathews and Kris Iodice - 1st PlaceBilly Mathews and Kris Iodice - 1st Place

Billy Mathews and Kris Iodice continued their reign on Diamond Lake, winning the Four Flags tournament there last weekend.

Despite Diamond Lake fishing tough for most anglers, Mathews and Iodice had 13.39 pounds caught on jigs in 2-4 feet of water. Only two limits were caught during the event.

Robert Evans and Rick Morrison - 2nd PlaceRobert Evans and Rick Morrison - 2nd Place

Robert Evans and Rick Morrison fished deeper, catching 12.55 pounds that included the big bass of the tournament, a 3.82-pound largemouth. They fished jigs in 20 feet of water.

Rick Kedik and Jake Lisenko finished third with 6.99 pounds caught on soft baits in 3-6 feet.

LMBT Report

Kent Dowden - 1st PlaceKent Dowden - 1st Place

Kent Dowden fished alone in extremely shallow water to win the Little Money Bass Tournament (LMBT) on Clear Lake (Michigan) last Saturday.

Dowden had 13 pounds, 7 ounces caught on Senkos to out-fish 15 other teams. The field weighed in 77 bass.

Floyd Wolkins and Jeremy Bunnell - 2nd PlaceFloyd Wolkins and Jeremy Bunnell - 2nd Place

Floyd Wolkins and Jeremy Bunnell were second with 12 pounds, 5 ounces caught on frogs.

SMC Report

The Southwest Michigan College (SMC) Fishing Team will be hosting a fundraiser fishing tournament on Diamond Lake this Sunday (July 23rd).

Entry fee is $125 per team, of which $50 will go to the payout and the remaining entry will help fund the college teams projects . Participants will receive free hot dogs, chips and drinks at the weigh in.

Hours are 6:15 to 12:15 to make it a 6-hour event.

You can sign up at the launch, but it is preferred that teams to sign up in advance.

If you are planning on coming but would rather pay at the launch, please email Coach Bill at wmathews@swmich.edu as soon as possible with your intentions. It will help me plan for food and drinks at the launch. 

This is SMC’s first year trying out a fundraiser fishing tournament to help finance some of the team’s projects. Coach Bill Mathews is hoping to make this an annual event moving forward and is open to suggestions on how to improve the event for next year.

Mike VanderReyden and Brett Gessinger - 1st PlaceMike VanderReyden and Brett Gessinger - 1st Place

Mike VanderReyden and Brett Gessinger found a new way to catch better quality Klinger Lake bass.

When they noticed a lot of suspended fish, they wound spy baits over the top of them in 10 to 26 feet of water to catch 12.54 pounds and win the Southwest Michigan Anglers Club tourney Sunday.

The winners also had big bass, a 3.39-pound largemouth.

T.J. Reed and Trevor Jancaz - 2nd PlaceT.J. Reed and Trevor Jancaz - 2nd Place

T.J. Reed and Trevor Jancaz were second with a limit weighing 10-68 pounds. They fished jigs in 20 to 25 feet.

Terry Smith and Scott Crocker - 3rd PlaceTerry Smith and Scott Crocker - 3rd Place

Terry Smith and Scott Crocker were third with 10.08 pounds by fishing shallow with topwaters and Senkos.

Tanner Hursh and Jarrett Tighe - 4th PlaceTanner Hursh and Jarrett Tighe - 4th Place

Tanner Hursh and Jarrett Tighe finished fourth with 9.70 pounds. They fished 5 to 25 feet with drop-shot rigs.

There were 17 boats that caught 70 bass, 13 of which were smallmouth. The tourney catch weighed 138.43 pounds

Ben Harrison and Trevor Jancasz fished drop-shot rigs to win the Arjay’s Weeknight Tournament on Klinger Lake last Wednesday.

Chris Yoder and Lester Hoshstetler - 2nd PlaceChris Yoder and Lester Hoshstetler - 2nd Place

Harrison and Jancasz had 10.84 pounds. Chris Yoder and Lester Hoshstetler were close behind with 10.56 pounds caught on jigs.
