John Leader and Brian Souza caught 14.37 pounds to win the first annual Breast Cancer Awareness Tournament on the St. Joseph River held at the 6 Span access in late October.
The winners said they caught their four fish that included largemouth and smallmouth within 15 minutes after the tournament started. They were fishing a shallow flat along a break and caught everything on Rat-L Traps and 1/4-ounce Lockjaw jigs. Oddly enough, they couldnít catch a fish under 12 inches to fulfill a legal limit. (St. Joseph River regulations limit each angler to two fish over 15 inches and the rest must be under 12.)

B.A.S.S. has expanded the Bassmaster High School Series to three Opens for 2015.BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - B.A.S.S. has expanded the Bassmaster High School Series to three Opens for 2015 and has increased the number of ways high school anglers can qualify for the Bassmaster High School National Championship.
When B.A.S.S launched the Bassmaster High School Series in 2014, the series exceeded the number of anglers expected to participate within the first four months of the programís inception. The sudden growth sparked a need to accommodate the demand for a youth fishing platform across the nation.
"The number of anglers who want to fish with us is really impressive," said Hank Weldon, manager of the Bassmaster High School Series. "High School fishing has the potential to be the largest tournament series we have in terms of angler participation."
Weldon said several new routes to qualifying for the 2015 Bassmaster High School National Championship have been added. In addition to berths earned through each participating stateís championship, high school anglers can qualify through sanctioned bass trails and through three regional Opens-format events.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The 2015 Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Opens tournament series will span nine months, visit nine states and possibly provide nine professional anglers a ticket to the Super Bowl of bass fishing - the Bassmaster Classic.
B.A.S.S. announced the three-division, nine-tournament Opens schedule recently, noting that it kicks off with the Jan. 15-17 Southern Open No. 1 on Lake Tohopekaliga at Kissimmee, Fla., and concludes Oct. 22-24 with the final Southern Open on Lake Seminole at Bainbridge, Ga.
