To engage young anglers – especially those already enjoying the growing popularity in high school and college bass fishing tournaments, Shimano will kick-off its youth fishing program on Dec. 1, announces Steve Ferrara, Shimano fishing division vice president.

The program aims to introduce and educate high school and college age anglers on Shimano tackle to help them have more fishing success, create lifetime relationships even beyond their time on the water, and open their eyes and teach young anglers about the sustainable use of the resource.

“We want them to further appreciate the sport in more ways than just catching a big bass,” said Steve Ferrara Shimano fishing division vice president.

Shimano ‘Youth Fishing Coordinator’ Frank Hyla, who has been active in high school bass fishing scene in Illinois since its inception in 2008, will lead Shimano’s efforts. In laying the groundwork for Shimano’s program, Hyla has attended more than 200 tournaments and youth fishing group meetings over this past year to both talk about Shimano and its tackle and advocacy efforts

Seaguar Introduces ‘Rippin’ – Premium Monofilament LineSeaguar Introduces ‘Rippin’ – Premium Monofilament Line

New York, NY (July 2016) There’s something about a top-water bite that raises the sensory levels to new heights. Splash. Pause. Splash. Pause. And bam — an explosive hit that’s a visual rush and adrenalin kicker for any angler. “I’ve always got a couple of rods set up with monofilament,” says Elite Series Pro Chris Zaldain. “There are certain presentations like top water, where I prefer the performance of monofilament altogether.”

Zaldain was one of several Seaguar pro-staffers who have been testing Seaguar’s new Rippin’ monofilament fishing line.

Seaguar Expands Technique-Specific Lines with ‘Finesse Fluorocarbon’Seaguar Expands Technique-Specific Lines with ‘Finesse Fluorocarbon’

The old adage - “You can’t fight Mother Nature” - is so true. Inevitably she’s going to throw a cold front or high-pressure system your way that’s going to change the bite. So before despair sets in and fishing plans are scrapped, you adjust. That’s when you put down that flipping stick and grab your finesse rig to coax more bites. Finesse presentations change the game.

“When conditions change and fish get finicky, we downsize everything - our baits, our rods and our line - to coax more bites,” says Seaguar Pro-Staffer and Elite Series Angler Shaw Grigsby Jr. “And while we are slowing presentations and downsizing gear, we’re still targeting big fish. That’s where the new Seaguar Finesse Fluorocarbon line can make a big difference. It’s exceptionally soft yet incredibly strong.”

Seaguar Finesse Fluorocarbon is made using an exclusive double-structure process that combines two custom Seaguar fluorocarbon resins to create a line with smaller diameters and exceptional knot and tensile strength. It’s soft and supple with low memory, making it a great choice for finesse applications. It’s available on 150 yd. spools and formulated in four sizes for finesse presentations including 5.2-, 6.2-, 7.3- and 8.4-pound sizes and will be available at stores soon.

Strike Jig Creates Jigs for Dock SkippersStrike Jig Creates Jigs for Dock SkippersNot all jigs are created equal. Some are better suited for specific applications, such as swimming, or flipping, or dragging.

When Strike King set out to produce the new Tour Grade Skipping Jig, it enlisted the help of a master tradesman, Bassmaster Elite Pro Andy Montgomery, a premier dock fishing angler on tour.

“The perfect skipping jig must have a few qualities not found in other jigs,” says Montgomery. “You can do a lot of things with a skipping jig, but you can’t use a lot of jigs for skipping. We addressed each of those specific attributes in the design process.”

The Tour Grade Skipping Jig is available in both 3/8 and ½ ounce sizes and comes in 6 of Strike King’s most popular colors.

Soft-body Poppin’ Perch offers an alternative to frog fishin’Soft-body Poppin’ Perch offers an alternative to frog fishin’

Strike King’s Popping Perch, spawned as an idea to create an alternative to frog fishing, offers a new hollow-body topwater that is sure to find a place in tackle boxes and tournament headlines in the very near future.

“The Popping Perch was the brainchild of Todd Castledine. Todd is not only one of the best fishermen I’ve ever known, he is also among the most innovative,” says Phil Marks, head of Strike King’s lure design team. “Todd brought us this idea for a hollow-body topwater bait that was unlike anything on the market. This is a bait that you can power fish with. It walks incredibly easy and wide, but that is not even its best action.
