Smoke HD 200 Offers More Line CapacitySmoke HD 200 Offers More Line Capacity

Greg Hackney is one of the most accomplished pro bass anglers in history, and he doesn’t mince words. He’ll tell you what he likes – what’s good – and well … what isn’t – and Hackney recently called the new Quantum Smoke HD he’s been testing “quite possibly the finest reel Quantum has ever built.”

Built with a really large 200 size spool that holds 180 yards of 12-pound test, on a compact frame, the new Smoke HD has the body of a sports car with 1-ton diesel truck’s pulling power that makes it ideal for deep crankbaits, Alabama Rigs, or like Hackney will tell you, just about anything you want to use it for.

Crankbait and heavy cover rods added to Shimano Zodias Bass Rod Series.Crankbait and heavy cover rods added to Shimano Zodias Bass Rod Series.

Shimano has added three rods to its Zodias bass rod line-up deisgned for crankbaiting or heavy cover braided line applications.

While existing Zodias series provide anglers with rods designed to perform for various applications, the new Zodias rods are constructed for specific lure and situation use. The 7-foot ZDS 170M-G and 7-foot-6 inch ZDS 176M-G crankbaits rods have longer reargrips for long-casting leverage, and include glass composite material within their Hi-Power X blank for the softer action needed. The heavy power 7-foot-5-inch ZDS 175H is ideal for braided line applications, especially when launching frogs into heavy grass. A long reargrip provides added casting distance leverage.

All the Zodias rods blanks feature Hi-Power X construction, eliminating blank twist for both better casting distance and accuracy. Hi-Power X is a unique process to support the lightweight blanks, with carbon tape added in a 45-dgreee ëXí pattern on the outside of the blank. The tape process provides what is called ëtorsional rigidityí to keep the blank from twisting during the cast ñ and with it, more distance and a more accurate lure presentation.

The new Zodias rods also include the sensitivity and strength of lightweight CI4+ material reel seats, plus lightweight semi-micro guides. The new models are now available through tackle dealers and will be priced at under $200.

Strike King’s New Bull WormStrike King’s New Bull Worm

Strike King’s new Bull Worm is designed to put keepers in the livewell.

“Winning tournaments and staying at the top of the standings at the Elite level is tough. It takes being able to catch big bass on a consistent basis and that is often a different approach to getting big bites,” remarks Keith Combs, 4-time Bassmaster Classic qualifier and 3-time Texas Toyota Bass Classic Champion. “The Bull Worm size and profile are perfect to target big bass and it can be rigged multiple ways in order to be most effective wherever you need to present it.”

The 10” Bull Worm comes in 6 per pack and is available in 10 big-bass catching colors at better fishing tackle retailers everywhere.

Zoom brings back an original in hand-pour laminates.Zoom brings back an original in hand-pour laminates.

Zoom Bait Company will introduce the Original Zoom Worm, a finesse worm that dates back 40 years.

The new version, however, will come in hand-poured triple laminate patterns instead of the conventional injection colors that originally comprised its lineup.

This release comes a year after Zoom brought out the "Z-3" triple laminates in the Swamp Crawler product, another finesse-oriented worm. Anglers across the country have clamored for additional products to be released in this lineup, and the subtle 6-inch Original - with its flat tail, slight egg sack and lightly-ribbed body - seemed a likely choice to fulfill the needs of dropshotters. Like its predecessor, it combines the best attributes of hand-poured worms with affordability and Zoom's legendary quality control.

The new version will be just as tantalizing as the original, but the build process will be more like that of traditional "garage pours," a labor-intensive, multi-step effort that produces a softer body and a wider range of color options. Up until now, this has been difficult to replicate in a mass production setting. Nevertheless, its shape will remain true to the original upon which the Zoom brand was built.

The Z-3 Original Zoom Worm will initially be available in three colors - Prizm Shad, Sexy Shad and Morning Dawn - to match your local forage and water color. It will soon be available at leading tackle stores and online retailers.

Swingin’ Sugar Buzz Bait Improves Hook-UpsSwingin’ Sugar Buzz Bait Improves Hook-Ups

The buzzbait has long been a staple of the Strike King lineup as well a preferred tool of bass anglers everywhere.

Staying true to their tradition of innovation, Strike King offers its newest buzzbait, the all-new Swinging Sugar Buzz.

“The Sugar Buzz really captures the recent trend of the free-swinging hook design. I don’t know if I’ve seen a bait that this technology better lends itself to,” explains 2014 BASS Elite Series AOY, Greg Hackney. “The design of this bait allows the skirt and hook to move separately from the head. The action found in this design draws strikes, and more importantly ensures that you land what bites.”

Available in ¼, 3/8, and ½ ounce sizes and 6 beautiful colors, the Swinging Sugar Buzz will be available to better fishing tackle retailers everywhere.
