Bass pros fish for a living. What could be better, right? Sit down with a professional angler at a boat show, and it comes out that they do enjoy their gig, mainly because they genuinely love to fish. One perk of the job is that the tournament season doesn’t run all year long, so they do have a true offseason.
As tournament directors put together their schedules for 2026, I’m curious to see if any have the will to at least partially limit the use of forward-facing sonar (FFS).

When Indiana and Michigan governors issued “Stay at Home” orders, many people have asked, “What about fishing?”
Yes, you can go. The public is urged to engage in recreational activity providing you do it a safe distance from others.
The following statement was made yesterday by the Indiana DNR on its Division of Fish and Wildlife Facebook Page:
“There has been some misinformation circulating on social media recently stating that fishing in Indiana is suspended until a later date. We would like to set the record straight that fishing is NOT suspended and it is an activity you can enjoy while practicing social distancing.”
Likewise, the Michigan DNR issued the following statement on its Facebook Page:
“We've received some questions concerning the activity of fishing following the recent "stay home, stay safe" order from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. The order given today stated that individuals may still engage in outdoor activities while following proper social distance from those around you.
“Fishing is one of those activities that can be done while following social distancing recommendations. We encourage you to spend some time fishing, but please keep your health and the health of others in mind.
“As a reminder, we have taken steps to close some facilities and cancel or postpone meetings and events to reduce coronavirus risk to Michigan residents. Check www.Michigan.gov/DNRClosures for the latest information available.”
Hank Cherry Dominates From Start To Finish At 50th Bassmaster Classic
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Across the country, there are thousands of ultra-talented bass anglers who would have loved to compete in this week's 50th Academy Sports + Outdoors Bassmaster Classic presented by Huk.
Only 53 got the opportunity — and from start to finish, there was no doubt which one of them owned the event.
Hank Cherry, a 46-year-old pro from Lincolnton, N.C., and an eight-year veteran of the Bassmaster Elite Series, caught five bass on Championship Sunday that weighed 19 pounds, 8 ounces. It gave him a three-day total of 65-5 and put the exclamation point on a dominant wire-to-wire victory that netted him a $307,500 first-place prize.
The competition was held at historic Lake Guntersville, but Cherry’s raw emotion shined through most back at the final weigh-in, which was held at Legacy Arena inside the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex.
“I talked to (fellow competitor) Paul Mueller in the boatyard, and he told me the devil was gonna try to get in my head today,” Cherry said. “He said just tell the devil to get out of your boat. He said tell him you don’t have time for him.
