New Garmin Wireless OnBoard System Rdefines Boating Safety Tech

Garmin Report

Garmin OnBoard™
Garmin OnBoard™

Garmin has announced Garmin OnBoard™, a versatile Man Overboard (MOB) and engine cutoff solution for boaters that uses wireless technology instead of traditional tethered cords.

Tags can be worn on a wrist band, carabiner or key ring float, and designated as either captain or passenger. If an MOB is detected, the system will save a waypoint on the chartplotter, and audible alarms will sound. Should the captain fall overboard, the system will also automatically trigger engine cutoff. Captains can also disable the engine via a button-press on the tag if needed. With up to 8 MOB tags, mariners can tag what matters most – adults, children, pets and objects – all at the same time.

“Wearing an MOB tag that can activate an engine kill switch on a boat can potentially save lives. As part of our commitment to making boating safer and more enjoyable for everyone, we designed Garmin OnBoard with safety and convenience in mind using wireless, non-intrusive tags that will bring the boat to a stop and alert those on board if an MOB event is detected.”
–Susan Lyman, Garmin Vice President of Consumer Sales and Marketing

Peace of mind on the water

  • Setup, pair and manage MOB tags from compatible Garmin ECHOMAP™ and GPSMAP® chartplotters.
  • Wireless MOB tags allow users to move freely around the boat without the need for a physical tether.
  • Chartplotter integration provides automatic MOB waypoint recording at the time of MOB detection, along with audible alarms from the chartplotter.
  • Easily disable tags temporarily to allow for hassle-free swimming and excursions.
  • MOB tag battery life can exceed a single season of typical operation.
  • Garmin OnBoard is compatible with any boat that has an engine cutoff switch and a compatible Garmin chartplotter.
  • Complies with U.S. federal laws requiring the installation and use of an Engine Cutoff Link.

The Garmin OnBoard System will be available this month for a suggested retail price of $499.99. Additional MOB tags are available for $149.99. Installation of the Garmin OnBoard System by a qualified marine installer is recommended. To learn more, visit garmin.com/marine.

Just When You Thought Lures Couldn’t Get Weirder – Meet the Flux-Gill

Berkley Report

PowerBait MaxScent Flux-Gill
PowerBait MaxScent Flux-Gill

Berkley is raising the stakes with the all-new PowerBait MaxScent Flux-Gill, a bold soft bait that blends a unique design with the power of Berkley’s signature scent-dispersing technology.

Designed to trigger bites in even the toughest conditions, the Flux-Gill features a unique honeycomb body that amplifies scent release while delivering a lifelike shimmy. Whether you’re rigging it for finesse tactics or tough fisheries, the Flux-Gill’s scent trail and natural movement make it irresistible to fish.

The Flux-Gill leans into two of the hottest trends in bass fishing: forward-facing sonar and free rigging. For finesse techniques, its flattened body gives it a natural glide, while the broad shape and subtle tail movement create a slow, horizontal fall that draws strikes from even the most skittish fish. Designed to mimic juvenile bluegill and other common forage, the ultra-soft PowerBait MaxScent material pumps out a steady scent trail to entice the most finicky of fish and trigger more bites, ensuring bass hold on longer.

"The PowerBait MaxScent Flux-Gill reflects where fisheries and angler tactics are going," said Nathan Ragsdale, Senior Product Manager for Berkley. "It shows fish something totally different—especially on forward-facing sonar—and combines that visual edge with the proven power of MaxScent."

KEY FEATURES:

  • Innovative Design: Unique Flux-rooted design with quivering action; honeycomb structure provides 53% more surface area for maximum scent dispersion compared to a solid body.
  • Versatile Rigging: Allows the Flux-Gill to be utilized across multiple techniques such as mid-strolling, free-rigging, or dead sticking.
  • MaxScent Advantage: Berkley's exclusive PowerBait MaxScent formula brings the science of scent to the water - expanding the strike zone, attracting more fish, and generating more bites.
  • Versatile Forage Imitation: The Flux-Gill imitates both panfish and batifish forage bases across both profile and colorways.

Available sizes: 3.5 & 5.3 inch

Colors: Smoke Black Blue Gold • Green Pumpkin • Gobyashi • Junebug • Tonic • Dark Gill • White Pearl • Baby Bass • Sunfish • Bluegill • Green Pumpkin Watermelon Red • Blue Pearl Black Hologram

MSRP: $9.99
