Michiana tournament anglers are going to have to enjoy fun fishing for a while longer.

The Indiana DNR announced on its website Wednesday that all tournaments on public and private property remain prohibited until June 14.

Michigan’s bass season doesn’t open until May 23 but the Governor’s “Stay at Home” order runs until May 28 and likely will be extended.

Michigan is in Phase 3 of her 6-Phase Reopen plan. If Covid-19 cases and deaths show noticeable decline near the end of the month, she could move to Phase 4 which allows “small gatherings” but doesn’t define what that means.

Tournament groups who have submitted schedules for publication on Michiana Outdoors News’ Lake Drive Marine Events Calendar are urged to notify us of rescheduling or changes in your tournament events.

B.A.S.S. Announces Revised 2020 Tournament ScheduleB.A.S.S. Announces Revised 2020 Tournament Schedule

After the coronavirus national health emergency forced the postponement of spring competition, B.A.S.S. officials have announced a new schedule for the remainder of 2020 designed to ensure all Bassmaster Elite Series and Basspro.com Bassmaster Opens tournaments can be completed.

"Any time we are forced to postpone a tournament it is disappointing to our anglers, fans, hosts, sponsors and staff," said Bruce Akin, B.A.S.S. CEO. "After this break of nearly three months, our anglers are looking forward to fishing on these incredible waters, and we know fans are ready to see big bass being weighed in again.

"Our team has worked diligently alongside our local hosts to ensure that we are ready to get back to the competition and fun of tournament fishing in a safe and responsible way."

B.A.S.S. has emphasized that it will heed each stateís mandates on crowd sizes and public spaces as well as monitor federal guidelines to ensure both competition and fan activities can resume safely.

Three Elite Series events and two Bassmaster Opens tournaments originally scheduled between March and May were initially postponed. An alternate date for the tournament originally planned on the Sabine River in Orange, Texas could not be identified, prompting an official reschedule of that event for Spring 2021. Instead, the Elite Series will compete on Cayuga Lake in Union Springs, N.Y., where last year Jamie Hartman won with a four-day total of 80 pounds, 13 ounces.

Competition resumes in June, when the Elite field heads to historic Lake Eufaula in Alabama June 10-13. B.A.S.S. hasnít visited the fishery since 2006.

"We are so excited to welcome B.A.S.S. back to the ëBig Bass Capital of the World,í" said Ann Sparks, Tourism and Main Street Executive Director for the City of Eufaula. "We are thankful (for) their dedication to rescheduling the tournament. Now we just have to wait and see what they catch!"

Competition for Opens Series anglers resumes in June as well, when the Central Open launches on the Arkansas River in Muskogee, Okla., for their first event of the season June 18-20.

"When originally setting up the schedule, B.A.S.S. took into account the times of year when each fishery would be at its best," said B.A.S.S. Tournament Director Trip Weldon. "The revisions, while challenging, should present excellent catch opportunities for our field."

Humminbird and Minn Kota Launch One-Boat Challenge Web SeriesHumminbird and Minn Kota Launch One-Boat Challenge Web Series

“The One-Boat Challenge,” the first branded entertainment series from Humminbird® and Minn Kota®, will debut on March 19 with the first of four episodes. Available through both Minn Kota’s YouTube channel and at www.oneboatchallenge.com, each episode chronicles the experience of a group of amateur bass anglers competing for top fishing honors on Mexico’s venerable Lake El Salto.

Utilizing the technological advantages of the One-Boat Network™, which combines Humminbird electronics, Minn Kota trolling motors and Talon shallow-water anchors into a single, integrated system, the eight competitors compete on the famed Mexican bass fishery using One-Boat Network-equipped Vexus boats to see which team can catch the most — or the biggest — fish. While competition winners reap rewards and gain immunity, losing teams receive penalties and face early elimination from the competition.

The reality TV-style competition took place at Anglers Inn on Lake El Salto, a proven big-bass lake surrounded by the picturesque Sierra Madre Mountains of Sinaloa, Mexico. Two-angler teams faced a series of challenges testing their fishing skills, their ability to think on their feet and adapt to changes, as well as their technical savvy with the One Boat Network. For the entirety of the competition, anglers relied on Humminbird SOLIX® units, MEGA Imaging®, LakeMaster® mapping, Talon shallow water anchors and a Minn Kota Ultrex™ trolling motor to help them locate and catch some of the most famous black bass in the world.
