Sit down with a professional angler at a boat show, and it comes out that they do enjoy their gig, mainly because they genuinely love to fish. One perk of the job is that the tournament season doesn’t run all year long, so they do have a true offseason.
As tournament directors put together their schedules for 2026, I’m curious to see if any have the will to at least partially limit the use of forward-facing sonar (FFS).

Using a Moonshine raspberry carbon spoon lure this past weekend, an angler from Ortonville, Mich. turned in a new state-record king salmon.
Luis Ricardo Hernandez Martinez was trolling with Capt. Bobby Sullivan of Icebreaker Charters on Lake Michigan near Ludington early Saturday morning when he caught a Chinook salmon weighing in at 47.86 pounds and measuring 47.5 inches.
Skamania Steelhead Moving into Trail Creek, Lower St. Joseph River

Cooler water temperatures and rainfall has drawn Skamania steelhead into some Michiana streams and rivers.
Indiana Lake Michigan Biologist Ben Dickinson said his crews have been gathering several steelhead at the Trail Creek Weir in Michigan City and hope to be done soon.
The adult fish being collected will be stripped of eggs and milt to produce future steelhead stockings.
“We’re getting about 50 to 100 a day, so it’s been steady,” Dickinson said. “We’re hoping to finish up this week.”
